Becoming a Good Cause on the Penrith Lottery Platform
The Penrith Lottery is a fun and effective way for good causes to raise funds for either capital or revenue purposes. As you will be joining under the Pride in Penrith's overall gambling licence (Gambling Act 2005), we have to ensure that organisations meet certain criteria.
There is no application fee to join the Penrith Lottery platform.
General Criteria for Applicants
To be eligible, your organisation must be one of the following:
- A constituted group with a volunteer management committee of at least three unrelated members that meets regularly (minimum three times per year)
- A registered charity, with a board of trustees OR

A registered Community Interest Company (CIC), and be able to provide:
- A copy of your Community Interest Statement
- Details of the Asset Lock in your Memorandum and Articles of Association
- Your latest annual community interest report
You must also:
- Be based within the Penrith or Eden area (as defined by our boundary map)
- Provide community activities or services that benefit residents within the same area of Penrith and Eden
- Have a formal constitution or set of rules
- Have a bank account requiring at least two unrelated signatories
- Operate with no undue restrictions on membership
- Ensure appropriate safeguarding checks (e.g., DBS) are in place when working with children and/or vulnerable adults
- You must commit to using the provided marketing materials and communication tools to achieve a minimum of 20 ticket sales within four weeks of your page going live on the site
Ineligible Applicants
We are unable to accept applications from:
- Individuals
- Groups promoting a particular religious, faith, or political belief or activity
- Statutory services legally covered by government i.e. schools, health care providers
- Organisations that do not do work nor provide community activities or services within the boundaries of Penrith and Eden (as defined by our map)
- Organisations which aim to distribute a profit
- Organisations with no established management committee or board of trustees (unless a CIC)
- Incomplete applications
Application Process and Conditions
- Good causes can register via a simple, free application at: www.penrithlottery.com/good-causes
- The Pride in Penrith Lottery committee (the body responsible for the Penrith Lottery) reviews all applications and will confirm decisions within 48 hours of the relevant committee meeting.
- All decisions made by the committee are final and not subject to appeal
- You must commit to using the provided marketing materials and communication tools to achieve a minimum of 20 ticket sales within four weeks of your page going live on the site
Additionally, good causes on the platform are eligible to apply to the Penrith Lottery Community Fund for a capital award or grant, if they meet the relevant criteria. Details can be found at: www.penrithlottery.org.uk/grants
Important Notices
- The Pride in Penrith Lottery committee reserves the right to reject any application for any reason, without offering an appeals process
- The committee also reserve the right to remove or cease licensing any organisation with a minimum of 7 days' notice
- If fraudulent or illegal activity is suspected, termination will be immediate

Once approved on the platform, you will receive:
- Your own webpage on the Penrith Lottery website - with no set-up fees. You can edit your logo and description
- You will get 50p from every paid ticket supporting your cause that is entered into a weekly draw
- Monthly payment of the money you’ve raised through Penrith Lottery - with no banking fees
- An online dashboard to track the performance of your lottery page
- A lottery helpline to help your players with any queries they may have
- Professionally prepared, seasonal marketing materials provided digitally in a range of formats
